Tracks can shift due to loose mounting brackets, impact from a vehicle, normal vibration over time, or foundation settling. Misaligned tracks can cause the door to bind, make noise, or not close properly.

Minor bends can sometimes be straightened by a professional, but severely bent tracks should be replaced. Attempting to straighten a track yourself can make the problem worse and create a safety hazard.

Signs include the door making squeaking or grinding noises, the door not moving smoothly along the tracks, visible wear or cracks on the rollers, or the door wobbling or getting stuck during operation.

Steel rollers are durable and inexpensive but can be noisy. Nylon rollers are significantly quieter, do not require lubrication, and last longer. Nylon rollers are the preferred upgrade for most homeowners.

Standard steel rollers should be replaced every 5 to 7 years. Nylon rollers can last 10 to 15 years. Regular lubrication and maintenance can extend their lifespan.

A full set of roller replacements typically takes about 1 hour. The technician removes each roller, installs the new one, and then tests the door for smooth operation and proper alignment.
